Brainstorm Blog #2: Soundscape

Thinking about this project and making an exquisite corpse soundscape I started to record sounds and things I did around my apartment. Knowing I also have access to both classes sounds I want to create an eerie and scary soundscape. I want it to consist of creepy stairs, loud knocks at the door, hearing footsteps from a far get close, loud gusts of wind and have a wide variety of sounds, but keeping with a scary theme to make someone uneasy. For this project to be 4 minutes and 33 seconds long I need to have a beginning, middle and end to this story I’m trying to convey. I think I want it to start by someone heavily breathing, almost as if they were being chased and then locking their door behind them. It would transition into the person doing dishes or some sort of chore and then hearing loud pounding at the door, their breath becomes faster and they start to hear the door unlock. You hear the person run and maybe some muffled breathing as I try to convey they are hiding. It would end by hearing the footsteps get closer and closer and then finally hearing the closet door open. I want to leave the listeners on a cliffhanger not knowing what happened to the victim. I remember doing this project my first year at Boulder and going with a fun approach making it seem like you were on the beach and hearing kids laugh and play. I think this time around I want to go with a completely opposite idea and create a scary soundscape.
